Crooked teeth, a gap between the front teeth or teeth that have shifted again after years. Orthodontic treatment lets us align teeth with fixed braces or clear aligners, and when an implant, a crown or a bridge is planned, it can be the first stage of further treatment.

WHAT BRINGS YOU IN

Crooked teeth, a gap, a shift

Most adults come with something they see in the mirror, not with the name of a condition. So we start with what bothers you, and we set the solution individually at the consultation.

Crooked teeth or a crooked front tooth

If teeth overlap, are rotated or set back, orthodontic treatment lets us align them in the arch. With small irregularities a change of shape with bonding or veneers is sometimes enough – more on that below.

A gap between the front teeth

A gap can be closed by moving the teeth or made optically smaller by building up their edges. The choice depends on the width of the gap, the position of the other teeth and the result we want to achieve.

Teeth that shifted after years

Teeth can also shift after finished orthodontic treatment, especially when the retainer stopped being worn. At the examination we assess whether further treatment is needed and what kind.

Before an implant, a crown or a bridge

When the teeth next to a gap are tilted or shifted, aligning them first can make an implant, a crown or a bridge easier to do. We decide the order of the stages after the examination.

COMPARISON

Fixed braces or aligners

Both let us move teeth, but they differ in how they look, how they are handled day to day and which conditions they can treat. We always choose the method individually.

At the consultation we assess which option is possible in your case and talk through the differences before anything starts.

BEFORE AN IMPLANT

Orthodontics before an implant, a crown or a bridge

Daniel Domański, DDS, MSc, works in orthodontics and implantology, so he can look at treatment more broadly and plan its order properly – in some cases first aligning the teeth, and only then an implant, a prosthetic restoration or a cosmetic improvement of the smile.

After a tooth is lost, the neighbouring teeth can tilt towards the gap over time. If that has happened, aligning them before an implant or a bridge can let us restore the gap in the right place and proportions.

An implant does not move like your own tooth, so an orthodontic plan always has to take the implants, crowns and bridges you already have into account. Because one person plans both stages, the order of treatment is set at the start, not along the way.

STRAIGHTEN OR COVER

Braces or bonding and veneers

Braces and aligners change mainly the position of the teeth. Aligning them properly can noticeably improve the smile, but on its own it will not change the shape, length or colour of the teeth.

With small irregularities orthodontics can sometimes be skipped and the smile improved with bonding or veneers. With more crowding or a bite problem, orthodontic treatment first can give a better result with less work on healthy teeth.

The best result combines aesthetics with proper function. That is why orthodontics is led by Daniel Domański, DDS, MSc, and cosmetic restoration by Mikołaj Kisiel, DDS – we plan treatment together rather than treating the two stages separately.

THE PROCESS

Step by step from consultation to retention

Treatment usually takes from a few months to about 1.5–2 years, depending on the bite problem and how far the teeth need to move. You will find the expected time and the stages in the treatment plan.

01

Consultation and examination

We talk about what you would like to change, examine your teeth and bite, and assess whether orthodontic treatment is needed in your case.

02

Diagnostics

We take a panoramic X-ray, a cephalometric X-ray, a 3D scan of your teeth and photos of your face and smile. This lets us plan the movement of each tooth precisely.

03

Treatment plan with a quote

You receive a plan with the method, the stages and the costs. If two options are possible, fixed braces or aligners for example, we present both. You decide which one to choose.

04

Treatment

We fit the braces or hand over the first aligners. At check-ups we follow progress and adjust the plan when needed.

05

Removal and retention

Once the teeth have moved, we remove the braces and fit a retainer that keeps the result.

PRICES

What it costs

We list the prices of every stage, not just the braces. The price of fixed braces is for one arch, and each arch is priced separately. The aligner price covers the whole treatment.

We know comprehensive treatment can be a big expense, so it can be paid in instalments through MediRaty.

RETENTION

How to keep the result

After orthodontic treatment teeth can tend to move back towards their old position. That is why we fit a retainer once the braces come off.

After orthodontic treatment it is important to use retainers properly and attend regular orthodontic check-ups.

Braces removal with retention costs 2 500 zł. If teeth have shifted after earlier treatment, at the examination we assess whether a new retainer is enough or further treatment is needed.

Which retainer

Retention helps keep the teeth in their new position. Depending on the case, we use a fixed retainer, a night-time retainer aligner or both at once:

  • fixed retainer – a thin wire bonded to the inner side of the teeth; in adults it should stay in long term, usually for life, provided you attend regular check-ups and keep up good hygiene,
  • retainer aligner – if it is used in addition to the wire, it is usually worn during sleep for the first year, as the orthodontist advises,
  • wire and aligner together – this combination may be advisable when the risk of the problem coming back is higher.

The choice of retention depends on the type of problem, how far the teeth were moved and the risk of them shifting again. At regular check-ups we check the wire and how the aligner fits.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

The most common questions

Can teeth still be straightened after 30 or 40?

Age on its own does not rule out orthodontic treatment. What matters is the condition of the teeth, gums and bone, so we assess it at the examination before treatment starts.

Do you treat children?

No. We see patients aged 18 and over.

How long does orthodontic treatment take?

Usually from a few months to about 1.5–2 years, depending on the bite problem and how far the teeth need to move. The expected time in your case is in the treatment plan.

How much do fixed braces cost?

Metal braces cost 4 500 zł per arch and aesthetic braces 5 500 zł per arch. Each arch is priced separately. Check-ups (400 zł) and removal with retention (2 500 zł) come on top.

How much do clear aligners cost?

Aligner treatment costs from 18 000 zł, and the price covers the whole treatment. The exact amount is in the treatment plan, as it depends on the extent of the condition.

How many hours a day are aligners worn?

Usually 20–22 hours a day. You take the aligners out to eat, to drink anything other than water and to clean your teeth. You move on to the next aligner usually every 7–14 days, depending on the system and the treatment plan. Wearing the aligners for 22 hours is not enough on its own if the teeth are not moving according to plan. That is why the orthodontist checks how the aligners fit and how treatment is progressing. Do not speed up the change of aligners on your own.

I have an implant, a crown or a bridge. Can I have orthodontic treatment?

In many cases yes, but the plan has to take them into account. An implant does not move like your own tooth, and a crown or a bridge affects how the braces are attached. We assess the options individually at the consultation.

My teeth shifted again after braces. What now?

First we assess how much the position of the teeth has changed. Sometimes a new retainer is enough, and sometimes further orthodontic treatment is needed.

Can bonding or veneers replace braces?

With small irregularities they sometimes can. Bonding and veneers change the shape of the teeth but do not move them, so with more crowding or a bite problem orthodontic treatment may be needed first.

Can orthodontic treatment be paid in instalments?

Yes, through MediRaty.
